Elizabeth (Liz) Geddes

Liz co-founded the firm after more than a decade of leadership in the Department of Justice. She routinely counsels individuals under investigation by the government and defends those charged with white collar offenses. Liz conducts internal investigations for organizations and advises them as outside counsel on employment and compliance matters. She also regularly represents individuals whose civil rights have been violated under color of law, those who have experienced sexual harm and those facing discrimination and harassment in the workplace, including in complex litigation in federal and state court.


Before founding the firm, Liz was a federal prosecutor for more than 15 years in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, where she served in several senior leadership positions, including as Chief of the Civil Rights Section and Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. As Chief of the Civil Rights Section, she led the groundbreaking investigation and prosecution of R&B musician Robert Sylvester Kelly, also known as “R Kelly,” who was convicted of racketeering after a six-week trial and sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment. As Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, she managed more than 115 attorneys and oversaw all of the Office’s criminal investigations, including large-scale fraud, bribery and corruption cases. 

As a federal prosecutor, Liz won several awards. In 2013, the New York City Bar Association awarded Liz the Henry L. Stimson medal for outstanding prosecution. In 2015, the National Association of Former United States Attorneys awarded her the J. Michael Bradford Memorial Award. In 2019, the New York County Lawyers Association (“NYCLA”) awarded Liz the NYCLA Public Service Award. In 2022, the New York office of the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations named Liz as the “Prosecutor of the Year.” 

Liz currently teaches a seminar on human trafficking at NYU School of Law. She previously served as an adjunct professor at New York Law School.

Between 2004 and 2006, Liz served as a law clerk for the Honorable Frederic Block, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of New York.
